Call Senator Feingold About Obama's Health Care Bill

What's Happening in Congress with Your Health Care

The Congressional Budget Office, a non-partisan economic and budget analyst, recently reported that President Obama’s public option would cost taxpayers over a trillion dollars in the next ten years.  Director of the Congressional Budget Office, Dr. Doug Elmendorf, told Congress that expanding health care coverage will increase health care costs to unsustainable levels because the growth in government spending will exceed the growth of our economy.

Congressman Paul Ryan has also voiced a concern that President Obama’s public option plan will create an environment where it's impossible for private insurance companies to compete against the government

Here is Ryan's statement on Obama's Public Option,

Here is how it works: The government-run plan would reimburse doctors and hospitals at below-market prices in order to control costs, similar to how Medicare underpays providers. When the government shortchanges doctors and hospitals, the rest of us will be forced to make up the difference: Those not on the government plan will have to pay more for the same care. If the government will only pay $70 to your doctor for a procedure that costs $100, then your doctor will charge you $130 for the same procedure to make up the difference."

According to Congressman Ryan, the government doesn't pay taxes, and they don't depend upon profit margins to stay in business.  Instead of negotiating payments to medical providers, they dictate below market prices, which will drive up the costs of our health care premiums.  As a result, the private health care industry will eventually collapse leaving us a Canadian-styled health universal health care.

Call you Congressman and Senators

In the next two weeks, Congress will try to pass this health care bill.  Let your representatives know that making health care more expensive while placing government in control of your health care decisions is not the American way.
